Bedside Tablescaping

The ‘Rooms and I have magically managed to arrange the new place quite quickly. Mostly because we have so few things and a bonus room for all the stuff we can’t deal with don’t know what to do with at the moment. ‘Rooms had his bedroom done on moving day by the time I came back from cleaning the old apartment, and the living room not long after. I focused on piecing MALM back together in my bedroom and making the kitchen functional before I went back to work. Everything else still in boxes got stuffed in the closet. Seriously, I have enough closet space to do that, its awesome and the best thing that has ever happened in my life.

I’m quite proud of both of us for resisting the urge to run to IKEA and buy a bunch of stuff to fill the new space just because we want NEW NEW NEW. Our old things seem updated again in the new apartment and hopefully that will tide us over and I can spend my saved furniture dollars on things we love and that aren’t just “good enough.”

The weekend is coming, so I’ve got the bedside on my mind. Where do you fall Internet? Do you make mini tablescapes of your nightstands with flowers and color co-ordinated book spines? Or keep it functional with a lamp, your current reading material, Chapstick and a glass of water? I picked up two little white tables from West Elm awhile back on super-duper sale and for the first time they’re flanking by bed all matchy-matchy and grown up. Currently populated by my favorite thrift store lamp and pink candle sticks turned paper flower vase and that’s it.

thoughts on bedside table arrangement

Here’s some bedside vignette-y ideas below I’ve been pinning for inspiration. My old room actually had the flat file and chair turned nightstand versions. We’ll see if I come up with something pretty AND functional. Seems like lamp on top of a stack o’ books is very popular, but is it sturdy… I don’t want Sophie knocking everything over with her inferior cat skills. Also, I need to hide those cords since my new stands are so leggy and exposed.

When you guys move in, decorate, or re-decorate, what area do you tackle first? Do you go for function and nail down the kitchen or office? Get your bedroom ready for optimal sleeping? Or set up the TV & Living Room first so you don’t miss one second of optimal reality TV viewing?
