new apple mac book pro Christmas came early

You guys! I did it. I bought a new computer. My old dusty 2006 Macbook can FINALLY retire to a farm upstate. After an extremely frustrating day at work feeling like I was a prisoner of Internet Explorer and its best friend Microsoft Office, the thought of going home and coding the new Cubicle57.com one more night while the spinning rainbow wheel of death taunted me at every click was just too much to bear.

I told the hand-holding-man-friend that I would be late for date night, and stomped fifteen blocks down Broadway to the UWS Apple store haven! I’ve done this no less than five times in the past couple months. I’ve been saving my pennies for a really long time, and eating lots of ramen in preparation for this moment. But without fail every time I had to pull the trigger I balked and bolted out the double doors like a nineteen year old at the altar.

The store now has an “express line.” All of the Apple doo-dads and what-nots are stacked and lined up all ready to go home with you off the shelf. You can just circumnavigate the sales floor and people using the test computers to check their Facebook, hand your card over, they’ll email you the receipt and you’re out of there faster than Starbucks. Poor Sarah was my gal’s name. I handed her my card said and said “I need a Mac Pro with a side of Apple Care please!” She immediately went all customer service on my ass asking me normal things like “Would you like help with set-up in store?” “Do you want the pamphlet about Apple Care?” “Is this for you or a gift?” “How’s your evening?”

By this time I was sweating profusely, a chill was creeping into my ankle boots and my numb arm was shaking. I stopped her abruptly and said “Sarah honey, I need you to swipe that card before I chicken out. I can’t go home without a new computer today. I’ve had a Mac before and I figure things out for a living, so if it’s all the same to you if I have questions I’ll just ask Google.” THANK GOD SHE SMILED AND DIDN’T PUNCH ME IN MY CRAZED FACE. In fact she laughed and said, “It’s ok, this happens all the time. I’ll email you your receipt, have a great night.”

So thanks Sarah. I hope you have a wicked awesome Christmas. See you in two weeks for my iPhone.
