No bike? No problem!

So here’s the deal. It’s that weird week in between Christmas and New Years where most sane people have escaped NYC and are tanning  on a beach, or immersing themselves in their down home rural culture of yore.

The people left in New York are either….

  • A) Tourists
  • B) Disgruntled New Yorker’s

Those New Yorker’s are only here because..

  • 1) They can’t afford to leave
  • 2) Have super important jobs where the “end of the year” is a big thing.

I fall into category B slash 1, obviously. I dutifully schlepped into the office this morning, and became trapped in a sluggish pace compared to the usual brisk march of my fellow 8 A.M. commuters. Now, while I too am in zero hurry because there are all of five people in my office today, three of which were administrative staff. I oddly couldn’t seem to slow my swift gait, mostly because being late stresses me out. I like to get back to the internet as fast as possible I like to be on time, and well frankly West 58th Street between the N and the C train is nothing to look at Ma’.

This guy has come up with an ingenious solution involving a bike bell. Sans bike. I think I love him.

Mad props for originality. 1. Escalator 2. Grocery Store 3. Airport. All places I like to keep a brisk pace and people like to mosey. I applaud you sir for thinking outside the box. Oh and its HILARIOUS that we are Pavlovian(ly) conditioned to move instinctively when we hear that sound. If someone rang a bell behind me I would no doubt move out of the way, I probably wouldn’t even look or notice that there was no bike.

To that end. I have had my eye on this bike bell from SiteNYC here in Astoria since this summer. And now… I have the perfect excuse to buy it. Sure saves me the $500 I was going to save up for a bike so I can have a $20 bell. Double. Win. See you when you get back from vacay Mackenzie! (The owner is in the vacationers’ group!) Good for you gurl.

P.S. Yay or nay, do you think this would fly in New York?

P.P.S. I wish I had thought of this when I used to work in Times Square!!?!?!?
