live music in Astoria park on summer thursdays

Oh Astoria Park, how I love thee. And love that you are my backyard. Moving over here has been the best thing I’ve done in 2012.

Went for a jaunty evening stroll last night and upon seeing the big band a swingin’ the hand-holding-man-friend and I promptly turned heel and walked back across the street to grab two folding chairs and the bottle of red off the kitchen counter. Pretty nice little Thursday and a great opportunity to decompress.

Its been a crappy week/month/year and I’ve been, um, tightly wound? I mean Monday and Tuesday started off great and then pre-Mercury in Retrograde* happened and people lost their minds and became monsters. Unfortunately I am a sensitive person and do not respond well to being treated horribly, once all of my cheeks have been turned I have no more time for your nonsense and you will be spoken to exactly as you speak to me. Whine-y I know, I should always be kind, generous, and loving. Uh huh, yeah. I’ll work on it. I wish I were that person. Honestly, I do. I’ll add it to the list.

PS speaking of “self-improvement” did you know that evidently less confident people are more successful because they’re hard-wired to work harder and take correction and set attainable goals? Me neither, but Harvard Business says it’s so, and its on the internet so it must be true. The full article is pretty interesting, maybe a little heavy for a Friday evening? Read it Monday then come back and tell me what you think!

If you’re a local Astoria/Queens resident check out the Central Astoria website, evidently they’re sponsoring live music every Thursday in Astoria Park. Their Twitter is um, empty, which is probably why I hadn’t heard of this, but their Facebook seems kept up.

*Also, I have no idea about that Mercury in Retrograde business. But I’m choosing to attribute the lack of humanity in my office to that so I can move on and not hate all of the people for ever and ever. Have a GREAT weekend, see you around the internetz!
