Travel ‘grams straight from the heartland

Had a fantastic long weekend away at my brother’s wedding.

In Iowa.

Obviously still adjusting to getting back, because its Thursday and I’m just now posting? And no, I haven’t unpacked. I have to remind myself that sometimes it feels downright healthy to get the heck out of dodge and stare at different shit for a while.

It also became an impromptu mostly unplugged trip because well, my hometown doesn’t have any of the “G’s” when it comes to high-speed data service for Siri. I don’t know who to consult, the internet elves or AT&T… I tried to ‘gram it up as much as I could when I was in the chilled recirculated air cocoon of wi-fi safety at my mother’s house. But I’m using this post as a photo dump to catch you up. In no particular order.

Best part of the trip, obviously, was watching my brother and his girlfriend do the damn thing and throw a simple, relaxed and tasteful wedding and reception. And by watch I mean, I helped, duh. I had to usher people, and hug strangers. PS I am the worst usher in the history of all ushers. Do not hire me for your next event, I have a very Vanna White gesturing “sit where you want” style of “ushering.”

After marriage of course, choosing favorites was a close second between driving a car for the first time since 2006, or watching the hand-holding-man-friend take in a town with a population of 5,000 people with saucer eyeballs. A good time was had by all.

Is the picture to the right of you in the airport a renovated grain elevator? I love love love that idea and really want to do it some day. Dream project.

It’s actually a skylight in an old building downtown. there’s a restaurant on the bottom floor, and a lot of the “main street” buildings are vacant on the second floors I think so the owners renovated this skylight into the ceiling of the restaurant that goes all the way to through the top. It was super beautiful. I wish I had gotten a better shot.
