Afternoon internet! Coming to you from the other side of employment, which means yes, today was my final day at my job. My replacement is awesome, smart, totally capable, and will be wonderful. I couldn’t be more excited and relieved that they found her. The amount of information that she absorbed in two and a half days is incredible. I think this is a true testament to the 20-somethings that are out there right now. Every single staff member that I have trained and worked with at this job has been outstandingly incredible at jumping in, learning, problem solving, saying “yes,” finding solutions when the answer is “no,” and in general making it work.
Our generation has been labeled the “slash” generation. Meaning we are no one thing in the workplace. Call this a byproduct of a downsized economy, short attention spans, job shopping, or just plain being awesome at all kinds of skillz (yes, with a z), the end result is pretty powerful if utilized in the right way. In no way do I deem myself an expert in anything really. However I do possess a useful skill set in A LOT of things. Web design, HTML, CSS, Photoshop, e-mail marketing, social media, writing, smoothing awkwardness with humor, unjamming printers/copiers/brains, data entry, answering phones, smiling, not smiling, saying no, and saying yes. It is my hope that there is a job out there for me where I can walk in with my bag of tricks, add more, develop on the existing, continually learn, and be part of a fantastic team of peers and mentors. It’s a big list, and if I can achieve half of what I’m looking for, this risk will have been worth it. Thank you for being there internet, you have taught me that these things are possible.
Enough about me, enough about jobs. You’re here to find out the winner of the giveaway yeah? Kim from Design Thoughts Blog, congratulations, you’re soon to be in possession of an awesome custom wall plaque. Those of you who did not win, its cool. Head over to Kelly’s Etsy shop and treat yourself to a consolation prize. Her stuff is awesome, and you’ll be supporting a wonderful lady, friend, and fellow blogger.
Now, everyone close their computers and enjoy your Labor Day weekend. Blow kisses to the end of summer, and I’ll see you next week! And always remember..
PS. Thank you for being brave enough to share your “sticking your neck out” experiences. I will respond to each and everyone of you, so check back on that post. I waited because I didn’t want to mess up my fancy-schmancy pick the winner plugin thingy. But know my heart was warmed by each one of your stories.
