What’s in a name?

Don’t be scared internet. I just changed my Pinterest user name. Namely to match my blog. Up until now you couldn’t do this! It doesn’t change anything as far as follow count and function are concerned as much as I can tell, unless you follow in RSS, then here’s the new link. I started “pinning” long before I started blogging, so my username was just a generic throw-away username I use for random shiz like Hotmail. Finally they updated that feature so now the blog and the pins match. I care about your internet stalking ease.

You see I would be what they call an “early adopter” of Pinterest. Moons and moons and moons ago, a super hip art director friend of a friend commented on my Facebook that I should join this new thing called Pinterest, seeing as how I liked the pretty and was constantly harassing Facebook with links to awesome things I loved. I will never forget you Jenn!

My whole world changed. Pinterest came into my life right at the correct time. It was visual, it was stimulating, and it was addictive. It had a lot to do with me starting this blog probably. All of the sudden my inspiration was all grouped in one place and I could see clearly the things I loved, and I wanted more space where I could share this with the world.

At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, Pinterest has changed a lot since the beginning. It started out as a gentle community of more or less designers, bloggers, and artists who just wanted a better online system than Evernote and bookmarks for cataloging their inspiration sources. Its morphed into a maze of land mine negative comments, lazy copyright infringement, ruthless SEO strategies, and Christian zealots moms from Ohio. I never venture out of my carefully curated feed anymore, it’s too scary. Heaven forbid I dial-up the pinterest.com and my browser forgets my damn cookies and doesn’t log me in. There are some things you just can’t un-see, and that’s all I’ll say about that.

If you’re looking for an interactive experience with me and fostering of an online dialogue, you’re much better off following me on Twitter, and my soon to be Facebook Page. I don’t reply to comments or “follow back” everyone who follows me on Pinterest, but I do pin good shiz and try to keep the cute animal pins to a minimum, though I do have a whole board for that, if that’s your thing. Happy weekend everyone, and I hope to see you around here soon!
